C.W.L.T.I. stands for Children With Life Threatening Illnesses. The aim is to grant children who are unwell, some often after extensive hospital treatment, a wish to brighten up their lives a little. C.W.L.T.I. was originally one of the services provided by the Medway Lions Club, which sadly disbanded at the end of June 2011 after 44 years service to the local community, due to the diminishing number of members. Two of the former members, together with five trustees, wanted to continue fund raising to help sick children in the Medway area, and to this end, the charity Medway C.W.L.T.I. Fund was launched at the beginning of July 2011. Children are referred from the Specialist Paediatric Social Worker from the Children’s Outreach and Specialist Team (C.O.A.S.T.) at Medway Maritime Hospital. Families are then visited in the privacy of their own homes to see what treat the children would like.
